Before   After

It's not too difficult for most of us to imagine being a 14-year-old who has withstood years of teasing and taunting due to a physical difference. Unfortunately, nearly all of us have our own personal and living tortuous memories. This 14-year-old girl presented with prominent ears. Her major concern, besides the teasing, was, as it would be with most teenage girls, she had very few hairstyle options. As an athlete and a young woman she just wanted to be able to pull her hair into a ponytail and go onto the court only concerned with the game and not the fact that "everyone" will notice her ears. She and her very supportive Mom did exhaustive research online to find a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive surgical experience with prominent ears both in children and adults. An otoplasty, or "ear pinning" which is the old-fashioned term, corrected the patient's prominent ears. Now as an 18-year-old college student, all that remains from the years of teasing are some quickly fading memories. Each time she takes her nightly jog, without much thought her hair goes up in a ponytail and she moves toward her exciting future. Now that's a success story.
